Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has a BA degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. She joined the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She was promoted to Washington general correspondent with NBC News two years later. From 1981 onwards she began covering the White House. In 1988, she became the chief reporter for Congress. She became chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell participated on the TV show Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. She served as a panelist during the 1988 presidential debates with George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 to recognize her efforts to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's initial White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy stories such as weapons control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to various summits while in the company of the President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
